Driftless Area
Rating: 3, temperature: 78 ℉, condition: Light Flurries.
Warm and sunny today. Not the greatest combo for trout fishing, but the fish have still been happy!Fish when the sun is off the water for your best chances. Deep holes, undercut banks, and mornings and evenings keep the sun off of fish.
Hatches have started to slow down with a few mayflies in the evenings, and craneflies being important still. Most of our fishing has been on beetles and other foam terrestrials with droppers tied below them. We have started to see hoppers on the banks, but they are pretty small as of now.
Subsurface flies are trending towards the smaller and thinner flies of late spring and summer. The exception to this are scuds.
