Driftless Area
Rating: 3, temperature: 76 ℉, condition: Flurries.
Transition time in the Driftless. As the caddis hatch fades, we are seeing the sulphurs and sallies come out to play. Lots of surface action lately (don't forget craneflies!) during hatches, and on beetles and ants during the middle part of the day.The sun is still the limiting factor on our low clear waters. Find shade to find more fish.
Subsurface fishing has been excellent on scuds, pheasant tail nymphs, and other thin bodied flies such as midge larvae.
Some rain looks to be in the forecast for the next few days. Nothing major that will muddy up the creeks at this time. The last few rain storms had fish going crazy. We'll keep you posted!
