Driftless Area
Rating: 3, temperature: 33 ℉, condition: Windy.
Fishing remains good for early season, especially with less heavy melting going on. When the snow melts heavily, it pumps freezing water into the creeks and shuts everything down. 40 degrees is the magic temperature. Remember to use your thermometer!Midges are hatching daily, and winter stoneflies are crawling around the edges of the creeks too. Fish are rising mid day in pods scattered throughout a stream.
Scuds, pink squirrels, midge larvae, and leeches are best subsurface fished right along the bottom and fished slowly.
