Driftless Area

Rating: 3, temperature: 28 ℉, condition: Thunder Storms.

Solid fishing so far this early season!
Water temperature is still the limiting factor.  The major storm yesterday passed south of us.  We only had enough drizzle to darken the sidewalk outside the shop, so no streams are blown out.
This melting has been excellent with warmer days getting rid of snow, then cooler nights locking the runoff back up.
As the snow hits the streams, water temperature will dip and shut fishing down.  Make sure the water you are fishing is 40 degrees or warmer for optimal fishing.
Midges are hatching daily and winter scuds are crawling around every day as well. Small, dark bodied nymphs and dry flies are great imitations.
Fish are also feeding on scuds, leeches, and pink squirrels.
