Wisconsin's Season opens March 1st!Waters are free of ice and flowing well, with some of the smaller streams that are heavily spring fed having water temps in the low 40s. 40 degrees and above mean active bugs (even hatching in the afternoon) and active fish.
The colder weather will help, as the main hurdle to early season fishing is having snowmelt drop the water temperature drastically. Make sure you have your thermometer handy!
Best early season flies include midges, larger scuds, and anything heavy that you can roll along the bottom.
