Driftless Area

Cooler days are back again!
Chilly nights with temps in the high 40s have stream temperatures creeping downwards again, which means more active fish!
Olives and tricos are around when the sun is off the water.  If you see rising fish, they are taking small, dark bodied dries and spinners.
The terrestrial bite is great right now.  As the sun warms up the water a bit in the late morning, hoppers (ants and beetles too) start to move around and fish will key into flies drifted next to the undercut banks, even on the bright sunny days.
Leeches have started to pick up a lot of fish lately as they are looking for larger meals going into the fall.
