The weather and fishing continue to be great for July! Saturday's high temperature is only supposed to be 66. Night time temps will be in the high 40s to low 50s this weekend. We had a little less than half an inch of rain total last night, which means some of the larger streams will be running stained this morning, but have already been dropping and clearing. Medium to smaller creeks will be clear.
Water temps are excellent, even on some of the larger streams that typically are too warm to fish this time of year. Remember to use your thermometer as there are still some stretches that are above 65 degrees.
Tricos have started to show up in the mornings on some streams. Summer olives (size 18) are also hatching and getting fish to eat on the surface in the mornings and evenings. The tan caddis with really long antennae are also hatching.
Besides the aquatic insects, terrestrials have been catching fish all day. Everything from big ugly hopper patterns to tiny beetles and ants. Try sinking you smaller terrestrials as a sunken ant or beetle can be deadly.
Subsurface fishing has been solid on scuds in orange and pink. Midge larvae and pupae are also fishing strong along with smaller, thin bodied nymphs.
Leeches, streamers, and mice have also been solid when the sun is off the water.
