Driftless Area

Rating: 3, temperature: 78 ℉, condition: Light Flurries.

Cooler weather is here!  The fishing has been very good early and late, with the sun and the humidity being the limiting factor (the latter for anglers).  The rest of the week and into the weekend temps top out in the low 80s.
The terrestrial and foam hatch is on us.  There is limited aquatic insect activity, namely midges and craneflies.  Fish are looking up for ants, beetles, hoppers, and attractor patterns.  Don't forget to twitch your bugs, and try sinking some of your smaller flies too.
Subsurface has been excellent as well, with the fly selection being pretty simplistic.  Thicker, spiky patterns and tiny bead head nymphs with a bit of flash or color.
We have been fishing a dry/dropper in the morning and evening, while during the mid day we are fishing deep with tungsten bead headed flies.
Do not overlook leeches, streamers and mice.  When the sun is off the water, we have landed quite a few nice fish on big bugs!
