Driftless Area

Rating: 4, temperature: 79 ℉, condition: Cloudy.

Fishing has been very good, even with bluebird skies.
Craneflies and midges are hatching like crazy and fish are up in the riffles feeding.  There are a handful of tan caddis popping here and there, as well as some sporadic mayflies and stoneflies coming off throughout the day too.
We have had great success fishing a high visibility foam fly, such as a beetle or foam bodied caddis, with a nymph dropper.  Subsurface fishing has been really solid on anything gray with a thick body (think hare's ear style) as well as pheasant tails and brightly colored nymphs and scuds.
Leeches and streamers have been working well early in the mornings, and later in the day when the sun is not directly on the water.
