Driftless Area

Rating: 2, temperature: 29 ℉, condition: Smoke.

A couple of inches of snow last night, and more falling throughout the day today.  Be careful on the roads!
Snow does not negatively impact fishing as the clouds keep in some heat, and it is not warm enough to cause anything to melt drastically.  Plus, you can sneak up close to fish!
Waters are clear and a bit low.  Water temps are peaking in the high 30s.
The best fishing is subsurface on tiny flies, or big bulky flies rolled along the bottom.
In the afternoon some fish are moving below riffles to feed on midges and winter stoneflies, but until the water temps are 40 and above, rising fish will be sporadic and spotty.
Leeches have been surprisingly good so far this early season.  Do not be afraid to pull one through runs and pools.
