Driftless Area
Rating: 3, temperature: 85 ℉, condition: Cloudy.
The recent cool nights have morning fishing quite good. Water temperatures are down, tricos are showing up for a longer period of time, and it is much more comfortable out there!Fishing is still best early and late when the sun is off the water and water temps are below 65. Anything above 65 and the fishing starts to drop off. Any temps over 70 (bad axe watershed, west fork, tainter etc) hooking fish can be lethal. Please use a thermometer and concentrate on the colder waters.
Tricos and midges in the mornings, ants, beetles, crickets and hoppers the rest of the day.
Fishing a foam pattern on the surface with a slim bodied bead head dropper is killer right now. If you like nymphing, a tungsten bead micro nymph is the ticket.
This weather is prime mousing weather too. Once the sun comes off the water the rodent feast begins!
