Driftless Area
Rating: 4, temperature: 91 ℉, condition: Partly Cloudy.
Fishing has been great, however, it is only great early and late, and in shaded areas overall.Fish are eating beetles, ants, hoppers and craneflies in the morning and during mid day. There are pods of rising fish in the evening eating terrestrials too, and feeding very well on craneflies and midges a few hours before dark.
There are still a handful of light colored mayflies around, so a 14 or 16 cream to orange bodied mayfly will catch fish.
Subsurface fishing has been all deep nymphing with heavy bugs in the big pools, and riffles.
A couple of hot and humid days ahead, with the weather cooling down by the end of the week.
