The foam hatch is on!By far, our best flies lately have been foam beetles, hoppers and ants. Fish are looking up all day, and water temps have dipped below 60 on many streams with this colder weather.
There are still sparse hatches of lighter colored mayflies and midges are still around, but fishing a terrestrial and small (18-22) bead head below it seems to be working best.
Subsurface both smaller flies with a thin profile (Pheasant tails instead of hare's ears.) and scuds fished deep are very effective too.
This is prime time for mouse fishing, with quite a few big fish being caught and many aggressive takes each night.
