Craneflies are going crazy in the Driftless!
Throughout the day we are seeing craneflies hatching from early morning through the evening.  If you are seeing splashy rises and no caddis around, tie on a cranefly.
Fish are also feeding on midge emergers (look for bulging rises) in some of the slower runs.
Subsurface fishing has been excellent on midge larvae, caddis pupae, and cranefly larvae.
The weather going into the weekend looks just fine, with little chance of accumulation of precipitation.  It will be chilly at night, so no need to get up early to catch fish.
