Driftless Area
Rating: 3, temperature: 51 ℉, condition: Light Flurries.
Dropping the fishing rating for today only, as a cold night on top of some colder rain will have fish a bit lethargic, especially first thing this morning.About 1.5 inches of rain fell last night, and we watched runoff begin on our guide trips at around 4 yesterday. Expect murky to cloudy waters this morning, then clearing up significantly (especially on smaller bodies of water) in the afternoon and into the evening.
Over the weekend there is a very low chance of more rain, and more importantly, there will be cloud cover all weekend. We should see pods of rising fish like feeding on olives and midges.
Orange scuds, San Juan worms and leeches in black will work in cloudy water (remember your thermometer, you want water temps in the 45+ range) while scuds, midge larvae, and red bodied nymphs will work in the water that is clearing.
Dry fly hatches will be down, with a few midges and some evening olives possible.
