Driftless Area
Rating: 4, temperature: 65 ℉, condition: Cloudy.
With the past few warm days, the snow is gone off the banks and we no longer have to worry about snowmelt dropping water temperatures. Fish are feeding into the evening (we saw rising fish at last light last night!)
Hatches have been sparse, with only a few fish rising to midges. We have started to see some olives (and even the odd Hendrickson here and there) but no major hatches yet. With water temperatures in the high 30s to mid 40s, the big hatches should be here any day.
In the meantime, nymphing has been incredible. Scuds, pink squirrels, weight flies, and midge larvae have all produced really nice fishing.
Leeches and streamers have also been deadly, with some nice fish (and a couple monsters) happily eating them all day long.
