Driftless Area
Rating: 4, temperature: 60 ℉, condition: Dust.
With the sunny weather, and despite the wind yesterday, hatches came off and fish were very active. This should continue into today.Water temps are still in the mid 30s to low 40s and the streams that have more active fish are the ones in the low 40s.
There is a chance of rain today, and as long as it stays a drizzle, it will be beneficial to fishing. If it gets heavy enough to start melting snow then water temps will drop (and streams will get murky) and shut the fishing down.
There have been reports of winter stoneflies and olives hatching, but the main surface activity is on midges in the afternoon.
Sub surface flies that are working best are bottom bouncing heavy scuds and thin bodied dark flies.
