Driftless Area

Rating: 3, temperature: 35 ℉, condition: Flurries.

Things are looking very good for the March 3rd opener.
We have been scouting streams the past few days and found most streams to be flowing normal to a big high due to recent snow melt.
(There is not a lot of snow streamside which will make for easier wading!)
Water temps have been hitting 40 and we have seen fish pushing up into the riffles and feeding on the surface during midge hatches, always a good sign for early fishing.
Make sure you have some midge dry flies handy for the afternoon hatch, as well as larger ones (16) for imitating the winter stoneflies.
Sub surface small (18) black thin bodied flies (copper john, pheasant tails, anat-o-may) will do the trick rolled along the bottom.
