Driftless Area

Rating: 3, temperature: 77 ℉, condition: Light Flurries.

After a very cool summer night (it was 60 degrees when we opened shop this morning) fish will be extremely comfortable in the morning as they have been all week.  The fishing will decline a bit as the sun climbs higher in the sky as cloud cover will be sparse mid day.  Fishing will pick up again as the sun begins to drop.
Fish have been eating midges and olives in the morning, with a few streams still getting a trico spinner fall.  Mid day fishing is hopper/dropper with a big terrestrial and either a scud or a tiny bead head nymph down below.  The evening brings fish rising to midges in the riffles again.
Leeches have started to pick up a bunch of fish as have streamers.  Again, the best fishing is when the sun is off the water, but if you pull a leech or streamer near an undercut bank you never know who will come out to eat it!
