Driftless Area
Rating: 4, temperature: 81 ℉, condition: Flurries.
A string of cooler summer days throughout the weekend coming up (highs in high 70s to low 80s) has jump started the fishing again. Look for fish to be most active early in the day, then again in the evening when the sun is angled off the water a bit. Tricos are sparse, but around on some area streams. Otherwise on the surface terrestrials and caddis skated in the riffles are working well. Midges in the morning and evening are catching fish sipping dries off the surface too.Below the surface scuds and tiny thin bodied bead head nymphs are working very well, as are leeches when the sun is off the water.
There are still streams with water temps in the high 50s, which is outstanding for this time of year. Remember to use a thermometer and if the water is 65 degrees or above you may want to avoid fishing as it will be quite slow and can stress fish.
