Driftless Area

Rating: 4, temperature: 86 ℉, condition: Flurries.

Things have cooled off a bit from last week, and with some light rain this morning, the streams are getting some nice cold water.  Through the weekend we see some clouds and a chance of storms with a big cool off on Sunday.
The water temperatures area wide are a touch on the high side, but smaller, shaded creeks and headwater streams are still running very cold.  Remember to use your thermometer!  If the water temperature is over 65 degrees it is wise to move on as fishing will be poor and you can stress the fish.
Fishing has been very good, especially in the early morning and late evening.
Midges are hatching daily, with fish sipping them in the riffles at first and last light.  We have started to see a few tricos, but nothing significant up to this point.  There are also caddis around.
Sub-surface scuds, nymphs with flash, and tiny micro mayflies with a bead head are working well.
