Driftless Area

Rating: 3, temperature: 82 ℉, condition: Light Flurries.

As the cooler temperatures slowly creep out of the area (it will be hot Sunday afternoon), fishing is still solid.  We have had great success first thing in the morning on midges, switching to a terrestrial with a dropper in the mid day, then hunting rising fish with midges and caddis in the evenings.  Subsurface bugs that are working well include pink squirrels, gray scuds, midge larvae, and tiny micro mayfly nymphs.
Water temperatures are excellent for this time of year, and streams are clear area wide.
Remember to chase cold water in headwater streams and tributaries during the day, as well as find shade when the sun is out.  Not only is it more comfortable for you, but comfortable for trout as well!
