Driftless Area

Rating: 4, temperature: 51 ℉, condition: Windy.

Another cloudy day today with a chance of drizzle.  The cooler weather has toned down the caddis hatches, and craneflies seemed a bit slower yesterday too, but fish were still rising to midges, caddis, and cranes.  Our guide trips also had success on smaller attractor dries.
Sub surface bugs are catching lots of fish now.  Fishing a nymph under an indicator dry fly can be very productive.  On stained waters, thicker bodied nymphs are working well.  On clear water, tiny midge larvae and pheasant tails are doing the trick.
With the sun behind the clouds, streamers and leecehs are an excellent way to catch some aggressive fish too.
