Driftless Area

We had our first report of a black caddis hatch yesterday.Fishing is very strong right now all day long. Fish are feeding on scuds and tiny bead head nymphs in the runs and pools in the morning, then they migrate into the riffles to feed on the midges, mayflies (and caddis) that are hatching.
Fish are looking up and eating midges on the surface area wide, as well as keying in on some larger olive mayflies. The black caddis hatch is just starting to get going and as it gets stronger it is the best hatch in the area.
Subsurface, we have had a lot of luck fishing small soft hackles, glass bead head nymphs, and caddis pupae along with the usual pink squirrels, scuds, and midge larvae.
