Driftless Area
Rating: 4, temperature: 68 ℉, condition: Heavy Rain.
Cloud cover today and temperatures cooling off again means trout will be re-energized compared to the two sunny days we just had. There have been fish rising in the afternoons into the evening on some streams taking midges and tiny blue winged olives. We have also started to see our late season caddis bouncing around on the surface.
Terrestrials, especially ants, crickets, and beetles are catching fish, and fishing them with a scud as a dropper has been deadly.
Scuds and small, thin bodied nymphs in darker colors are getting fish to eat sub surface.
Leaves are starting to turn, fish are getting their fall colors, and water temps are in the mid 50's. Take advantage of ideal conditions before the season ends!
