Driftless Area
Rating: 3, temperature: 71 ℉, condition: Heavy Rain.
UPDATE: 3:30 Still drizzling on and off in town. A handful of streams are showing some stain, the rest are still clear. There have been customers who have had success on olives, other than that the ant is king!UPDATE: 2:00 Light rain area wide. It will not last too long and outside of a valley or two that get thundershowers, it should be less than 1/10 of an inch.
Another cool and rainy day, with light rain forecasted after 1 p.m.
Fishing has been very solid thanks to the clouds and rain. Viroqua received a tenth of an inch of rain last night, but there were localized thundershowers in some valleys. If your favorite creek is running off color, switch valleys and you will find clear water today!
Nymphing and swinging soft hackles in the riffles and thigh deep water has been the most effective as we have yet to see solid hatches of sulphurs. There are a few more yellow sallies laying eggs, so a yellow sally nymph during the day and an egg laying pattern in the evening have been catching fish well.
Leeches and streamers in the cloudy water, and scuds rolled along the bottom work incredibly well. Scuds are much more active in the low light and they become dislodged after rains.
