Driftless Area
Rating: 3, temperature: 78 ℉, condition: Heavy Rain.
Despite ominous weather forecasts, we have not had any significant rain, our streams are clear, and the fishing is quite good. We have a good chance of rain again today but nothing that will make our area unfishable.Still no major hatch activity and only sporadic rising fish throughout the day. They are looking up a bit and will eat ants, beetles, craneflies, and in the evenings yellow sallies and lighter colored mayflies.
Otherwise nymphing has been the ticket lately with micro nymphs (tiny thin bodied nymphs) and midges, or a chunky size 14 to 16 nymph to imitate cranefly larvae, stoneflies, and scuds.
The weather looks great for the weekend with clouds, some rain, and comfortable temperatures.
