Driftless Area
Rating: 4, temperature: 74 ℉, condition: Flurries.
After a windy and sunny day, clouds will roll in after noon today and the fishing will get back on track. Fishing is still best in the evenings and when the sun is lower in the sky, but fish are still holding in the riffles and feeding, even on the surface.Although there are no major hatches we are still getting sparse light colored mayflies, craneflies, and on the smallest waters olive caddis are hatching and egg laying.
The terrestrial fishing is getting hot and ants, beetles, and hoppers are catching fish. Try letting them sink just under the surface if the fish are picky.
Sub surface, tiny bead head nymphs and scuds are working well, as are soft hackles swung through the riffles.
Do not overlook leeches and streamers as there are some aggressive fish out there.
