Driftless Area

Fishing has been great, especially on streams that have some shade on them. The water temperatures are not too high, however fish are behaving like it is mid summer, simply due to a bright sun. They will be acting the same again today. Fish early and fish late when the sun is not shining directly on the water, and avoid meadow streams (Timber Coulee, Elk etc) mid day.Fish have been feeding on the surface on midges in the mornings and caddis in the afternoon, as well as on craneflies throughout the day.
We have started to have some success, and started seeing terrestrials lately. Beetles ants and even hoppers have caught fish over the past few days.
The most successful method right now is fishing a small to tiny nymph or midge larva behind a dry fly.
