Driftless Area
Rating: 3, temperature: 68 ℉, condition: Cloudy.
Fishing is quite good, but we are still waiting for a stable weather pattern for it to kick into high gear.Caddis are hatching daily, with a handful of streams still having very thick hatches. More and more reports of black caddis returning and we are still fishing strong on tan caddis.
The fishing is best when and where there is a bit of shade on the water. We are due for another string of bright and sunny days and the bite is off mid day. The overnight temperatures are not low enough to drop water temperatures significantly and keep fish from feeding in the mornings.
Water temps are still in the mid 50s. When they hit 60 the caddis hatch is stronger.
Under the water olive leeches are working very well as the creek lamprey are spawning. Scuds are also very effective now in lighter colors.
