Driftless Area
Rating: 3, temperature: 45 ℉, condition: Windy.
UPDATE: 4:30 PM. Surreal watching snow fall outside. Flurries on and off all day with no accumulation and main street is completely dry. Waters are still in perfect shape and will stay that way through the weekend.Although a drop in air temperature, the water temps will stay stable between 45 and 50. The cloud cover today and Saturday will have a big positive impact on fishing. There is a chance of seeing blue winged olives hatch this weekend with the weather!
Water area wide is clear.
Midges are still the main bug on the surface with hatches daily throughout the area. They are thinning out a bit and will not be at all places at all times. The majority of the hatches are happening in the evening just before sunset.
Larger profile nymphs (hare's ear, prince, pink squirrel etc) are catching fish in the deeper water, and scuds are starting to come on, especially with a bit of color.
Leeches and streamers are also effective right now in the darker waters.
