Creeks are stained to muddy today.
Rains hit heavy at about 7 pm last night. That gave some creeks enough time to start to drop and clear overnight. Rains hit far heavier south of us in Crawford and Grant counties. Most creeks will be murky (the West Fork was blown this morning) but the tributaries and head waters were looking fishable. Things will only get better as creeks drop and clear through the day. While it might not be dry fly water, fish will be happy later today and through the weekend.
On the murky water, fish worm patterns, leeches, large scuds and pink squirrels. On the clear water, terrestrials caddis and olives on the surface with thin bodied bead heads (food, perdigons, pink and purple belly pheasant tails).
We dodged a pretty big bullet the past couple of days. Amazed that the creeks held up with the onslaught of rain the past few days!
