It's the beginning of a short heat wave. Even though we are proponents of not putting away your gear in the summertime, today and through Friday we are going to see base temperatures into the 90s, with the heat index even higher. Not only is this going to warm the waters up making fishing very difficult and possibly stressing the trout, it will be very difficult to be outside (there is even an excessive heat watch for Thursday and Friday). If you plan on going out, make sure you fish very early and very late when the sun is off the water, and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. The good news is that over the weekend temperatures will begin to drop.
We're still seeing tricos in the mornings and fishing terrestrials through the rest of the day. A few yellow sallies are still around in the evenings and fish are eating emergers and midges at night.
Subsurface fishing is best on tiny bead head n nymphs fished right along the bottom of deep pools.
